Run with Endurance

“As we follow Christ, we are always to be moving forward and pursuing Him as He pursues us.”

ree
“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall review their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40: 30-31 (ESV)

The prophet Isaiah says, “They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (40:31, emphasis mine). They shall run and they shall walk. Both running and walking indicate movement. As we follow Christ, we are always to be moving forward and pursuing Him as He pursues us. We do not simply sit back and wait for our sanctification to happen. Yes, the Holy Spirit is the one providing and causing the transformation in us. However, this change will not happen without our willing participation and surrender. Matt Chandler says, “A Christian should never be bored.” There is always more to learn about God - He is infinite, after all. There are always people around us who need to hear the gospel. We can always be more like Jesus. We should always be running or walking.

Take note that while we are always to be on the move as believers, there is a difference between running and walking. I may be able to walk five miles each day, but I certainly will not be able to run those same five miles. Different times in our lives will require different things of us. Perhaps you’re in a season where you find yourself running. Everything seems to be clicking and coming together and God is blessing you. Praise God for that! Maybe you’re in a season where you are walking. Slowly chipping away at your sanctification and being faithful in the ordinary tasks of life. Praise God for that! Or maybe you’re in a season of waiting. Your walk feels like a crawl. Still, take hope, friend. We are always walking or running. We are never sitting still. We are always moving toward what God has for us. Praise God for that!

God, may we continue to follow You with all our of heart, soul, and mind. Knowing that whether we are walking or running, our goal is to become more like Jesus. By fixing our eyes on You, and You alone, we are not running or walking in vain.
