Live in His Love
“The main way God's love is shown is this: our capacity to love God, the opportunity to approach Him, the reason we get to know of Him, let alone to know Him personally, is because God loves us.”

“The one thing I ask of the Lord- the thing I seek most- is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord's perfections and meditating in His Temple.” Psalm 27:4 NLT
I think this verse in today's English might say something like, “I wish I could just live at church, worshiping God and enjoying who He is.” And while the psalmist seems to be declaring his love for God, God's love for us is shown in this and other verses in this psalm.
The main way God's love is shown is this: our capacity to love God, the opportunity to approach Him, the reason we get to know of Him, let alone to know Him personally, is because God loves us. Instead of remaining distant or wiping us all out like we deserve, He chose to make Himself known. And though we can encounter God anywhere, I believe we can do so uniquely in His house.
I'm writing this the day after attending church and, honestly, having been in a snit that morning. I was highly irritated and frustrated with myself for being so irritated. And yet when I got to church and worship started, when I began to sing of who God is and He reminded me of His love, I didn't want to leave. I, too, wanted to stay in God's house, enjoying Him, praising Him, getting to know Him more. Encountering God's love made me love Him even more and that, moms, is how we are made to live.
So wherever you are, whatever you have going on, make sure to bask in God's love for you and let it fuel your love for Him.
Pray with me: God, Your love for us is astounding. Instead of creating us and then taking Your hands off, instead of wiping us all out for good like we deserve, You chose to come near to us. You still choose to come near to us. May we draw near to You in return, and may we never waste an opportunity to enjoy Your presence. Amen
Psalm 27:8 says,“My heart has heard You say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”
Mama, God wants to talk with you. Go to God today, take time to lay it all out before Him, whatever “it” is, and let Him love you.
Faith Follow-Through:
This week, take some time to grow in motherhood and faith:
Tuesday:
My commentary for Psalm 27:4-6 states, “Searching for and enjoying the Lord's presence provides the psalmist’s foundation for confidence and security. He lives in the assurance of God's protection and looks forward to offering sacrifices of thanksgiving and praise.”
We, too, can rest assured in God's protection. Go to God today, tell Him where you're feeling vulnerable and worried, and ask Him to remind you and show you how He's protecting you and your kids.
Wednesday:
When you thank God, thank Him for the attribute behind His blessing too. For example, if you are thanking God for food, also thank Him for His generosity and providence in feeding you and your family. Reminding ourselves of God's traits will remind our hearts how He loves us, and help us love Him more in return.
Practice this today, by choosing a few things to thank God for, and going to Him in thanksgiving and recognizing those attributes of God, especially His love.
Thursday:
Worship is a great way to get in the presence of God. We can’t be at our church worshiping every moment of our lives, but we can “live in the house of the Lord” wherever we are by spending time in worship daily. If you don’t already have a rhythm of worship in your life, I encourage you today to be purposed in putting on worship music, and allowing that worship to fill you up with God’s love.
