Let God

“So yes, we have to let go and let God do what He knows is best.”

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

How many times have we gone to God with our troubles, but moments later we are already trying to fix the issue ourselves? It’s hard to let go and let God take over. But that’s exactly what He wants us to do. He tells us over and over again in the scriptures to give everything to Him. But why is that so hard?

As a kid, and even into adulthood, I got so mad at the Israelites in the wilderness. They had been slaves for almost 400 years, and they were finally set free. They witnessed plagues and miracles galore. And the first thing they did with their freedom was complain and ask to be taken back to captivity. What was wrong with those people? God was in their midst, and they didn’t believe He would help them.

As I’ve gotten older and maybe a bit wiser, I can see myself in the Israelites. I ask God for wisdom on issues, I go to Him with my heart free and open. But as soon as I don’t see those issues resolved, I start to complain that God must not have heard me, and I then try to resolve the issue myself.

But God doesn’t want us to waver in our faith. He rescued the Israelites over and over, and He continues to do that for us every day. We may not be slaves in captivity anymore, but we are slaves to our own desires. Our freedom and wisdom is dependent on God and God alone. So yes, we have to let go and let God do what He knows is best. No matter how hard that is for us to do. God will bless our hearts, souls and minds for being steadfast in Him.

Just a little further down in James, it says,“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

So take those complaints to God, but don’t dwell in them. Ask Him to help you be open to all His possibilities and desires for you. He has a plan, and will be there guiding you along the way.

Action Steps:

  • I encourage you to go read Exodus 15-24. You will be reminded of how God took care of His people, throughout their many complaints and mistakes.

  • Start a prayer journal. You’ll be able to look back and praise God for His mighty plans.

  • Don’t forget to ask others to be there for you in prayer. Knowing others are also praying with you will give you that extra boost of patience to wait on God's guidance and grace.

Prayer: Dear God, we offer up our hearts, minds and souls to You. Take up our burdens and make them Yours. Open our eyes to look for Your goodness and grace in all we have going on in our lives. We pray that You give us the patience and strength to carry on, as You move on our behalf. And, when times are tough, may we continue to praise Your name. For all the praise and honor belongs to You, God. Amen
