It’s Raining Bread

“The truth is, though, even though we don’t have literal bread raining from the sky, we most definitely have figurative bread being provided for us every single day.”

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not’” Exodus 16:4
I recently said to a group of friends, “If I woke up to bread on the ground every single day, I would always be grateful and always focused on God. How could you not be? There’s literally food raining from the sky!” But it’s kind of like before you have kids, and you say your kids would never do something, but then fast-forward five years, and your kids are “nevering” so hard.
The truth is, though, even though we don’t have literal bread raining from the sky, we most definitely have figurative bread being provided for us every single day.
The food in your kitchen, the bed you sleep in, the income provided to you. Manna.
Your family, your friends, your children, everyone you love. Manna.
And the best one, the bread of life, Jesus, whom you have access to every single day (which is extra because manna was only provided 6 days a week).
We receive so much provision, and when we really sit down and think about it, it's as obvious as manna falling from the sky. God is obviously providing.
So why do we, like the Israelites, grumble, lose focus and faith, and walk around ungrateful at times?
I can’t really answer that question for everyone, but I think it boils down to the fact that we’re human. We tend to get busy and forget the blessings right in front of us.
So, mom friend, I encourage you today to remember all that’s being provided to you every day. Lay down your grumbling, turn your focus back to your daily bread (Jesus), and you will never hunger or thirst (John 6:35).
Go out, gather your portion for today, and walk with God, grateful for all He’s done.
Action Steps:
Read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and John 6:35
Gratefulness activity: Each day in November, write down one thing God has done for you or provided for you. On Thanksgiving (or, around Thanksgiving because, let’s be real, that’s a busy day), go back and re-read your list. Keep your list somewhere you can add to and re-read it. Bonus points if you involve your whole family!
Prayer: God, thank You for providing me with my daily manna. You provide so much for me, for my family, and I’m truly in awe of how much You love us. When I’m struggling to see my blessings, send me a little reminder of how much I have. I am so thankful for You. Amen.
