From Crowds to Alone Time

“But Jesus didn’t climb into bed with a book. He went to His Father for solitude, rest, and renewal.”

“And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.” Matthew 14:23
After a full day of doing all the mom things, driving kids all over town, cooking what feels like 5000 snacks and meals, picking up after everyone and keeping the house running, I’m always exhausted. I want nothing more than to go off alone, crawl into bed with a book, and have no one touch me for 8 hours.
And Jesus modeled the same thing. Kinda. With one big difference. When Jesus got done doing all the Jesus things, teaching, loving people, doing miracles, feeding literally 5000 men (and more women and children), He also went away from the crowds to be alone. But Jesus didn’t climb into bed with a book. He went to His Father for solitude, rest, and renewal. Jesus knew who to go to for strength, for wisdom, and for guidance on what to do next.
And moms, don’t we need the same stuff?
Crawling into bed and begging everyone not to touch us is NOT going to bring rest and renewal the way going to our God will. But when we’re feeling overwhelmed by the crowds, I mean, our kids, finding time to be alone with God is the best way to draw strength from Him. Jesus showed us that having time alone is so important, allowing us to slow down from the hurry of life, and experience peace that only Jesus can give us.
Mom friend, whatever it is you need, make time to get away from all the distractions of motherhood, and spend time with God, who will provide exactly what it is that you need.
Action Steps:
Have you been taking time to sit in the presence of God, away from your busy schedule and any distractions? If not, make the time today to do that, whether it’s after bedtime when you’re exhausted, first thing in the morning, or sometime in between.
During your time alone with God, pray, reflect, listen to Him, and read your Bible.
