Do You Trust Yet?

“It's so hard to let go and trust Jesus, but honestly it is continuing to build my faith in the One who has us all in His hands!”

“Then he turned to his disciples and said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Haven’t you learned to trust yet?’ But they were overwhelmed with fear and awe and said to one another, ‘Who is this man who has such authority that even the wind and waves obey him?’” Mark 4:40-41 TPT
Life has a way of giving us moments that allow fear to easily creep in. When we were young, we were so fearless! There are many moments I can recall when I didn’t think twice about decisions, I just did them with boldness. The more we grow, the more knowledge we obtain, and the more fear comes knocking at our heart’s door. Then one day we realize how much we are holding ourselves back because of fear. Fear of failure. Fear of missing out on something better. Fear of the unknown. Fear of the worst happening. Even those who are so strong in their faith have the tendency to rely on fear more than trusting Jesus at His words.
Let’s look here at the disciples in Mark 4. They had just witnessed so many miracles, and yet, when face to face with an actual storm, they allowed fear and panic to overwhelm them. I can imagine what Jesus’ face looked like. You know that look we give our kids when they ask for something over and over, and you told them it would happen, but they keep asking anyway? Yeah, that face! You just want them to trust you when you said yes the first time. You want them to know you won’t deceive or lie to them. I’m sure that’s how Jesus felt. He says here in The Passion Translation, “Why are you so afraid? Haven’t you learned to trust yet?” Whoa! That’ll set you right back in your chair!
Do I trust yet?
I know for me, I still struggle with this. When my adult kids are out late, I feel the urge to check their locations minutes after checking it the first time. Over and over. Then I feel a nudge from the Holy Spirit saying, “You gave them to Me. Trust Me to protect them like I’ve said I would.” It's so hard to let go and trust Jesus, but honestly it is continuing to build my faith in the One who has us all in His hands! And when I trust Him, He fills me with His peace, and I am able to rest. Because I know He has proven Himself true time and time again.
I know storms are going to rise. We are going to be shaken. We will be presented with the unknown. The question is are we going to cower in fear or stand in faith, giving Jesus control of it all?
