“To be known by God is to be loved deeply, unconditionally, and sacrificially.”

“But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.” 1 Corinthians 8:3 (ESV)
When the apostle Paul writes “if”, he is referring to true, genuine believers in Christ. If
one loves God, this will be clear through their obedience to the Lord’s commands. It is our job as mothers to show our children how the commandments of God are not burdensome. We are to repeat the call of Christ in Matthew 11:28-30 when he says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your sounds. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (ESV)
It is our call as mothers to cultivate an environment in which our children can experience
the love of Christ through our care for them. We also want the gospel to not only be spoken of often, but evidenced in everything we do. In the words of Jen Wilkin, “We are to create disciples, not simply converts.” This means that while we pray for and yearn for our children to follow Jesus, we must remember that following Christ includes their justification in addition to their sanctification. This process of progressive sanctification is life-long for all believers, until the glorious day when we will see Jesus face to face.
Part of discipling our children includes teaching them they are known and loved by God.
To be known by God is to be loved deeply, unconditionally, and sacrificially. In today’s verse,
the word “known” is in the perfect tense. This is to show how God knew us in the past, knows us presently, and will know us in the future. May we tell our children of how deeply known and loved they are by the Lord as we experience the Lord’s love in our own lives.
