Construction and Instruction

“Building on the firm foundation of God’s Word is the only way to survive the storms of life.”

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27, ESV)

We moms build a lot of things, don't we? From doll houses to Lego castles, chances are if you are a mom, you've used your hands to construct or your words to instruct something of value to your little ones.

But guess what? The construction and instruction phase of this motherhood project is never truly done. Certainly, when they are grown and flown, it changes a bit. The foundation has been laid, but the thing I want to encourage you with today is that the wisdom God wants us as moms to have does not end after a certain stage of motherhood, but rather, it must mature and grow just as your children do.

Jesus’ words in Matthew 7 are for more than a parable to illustrate a point, they are a lifeline to all who heed them. Building on the firm foundation of God’s Word is the only way to survive the storms of life. His Word is the Truth we need to build our life properly. I'm not talking about the physical structure of a home, but rather the spiritual significance it can have when built upon the solid rock.

Just like those doll houses or Lego castles have instruction manuals, God's Word is our instruction manual for life.

Let's be wise women who build our motherhood on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, the Rock of Ages. He doesn't change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and anything built on Him will last. An ongoing relationship with Him will give us the tools and the wisdom we need to continue to build wisely in every age and life stage.

Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me the perfect instruction manual, Your Word, and thank You for leaving me Your Holy Spirit to help me rightly divide and rightly apply Your Word to my life. I pray I can live it out in my home, and everywhere I go as I represent You. Help me daily seek the wisdom I need to continually build upon the solid rock, and continually instill those truths into others who are building, too. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
